名刺 — the card is the person

Present and receive with both hands and a slight bow. Never write on it or pocket it carelessly.

Silence is not awkward

Pauses in meetings mean careful thought, not disinterest. Rushing them reads as impatient.

稟議 — decisions need layers

Approval moves through multiple steps. A slow reply doesn't mean no — it means it's in process.

On time means 5 min early

Arriving exactly on time is considered slightly late. Notify well ahead if you'll be delayed.

The gift calendar matters

Summer (お中元) and year-end (お歳暮) gifts signal the relationship matters. Not a formality.

“Hai” isn't always yes

「はい」means “I hear you.” A direct no is rare — read the pauses instead.
